Chunky the British Shorthair Cat 🐾

Chunky isn’t just a feline friend of the Pet Stays Melbourne Team— he’s truly part of our extended feline family. With his plush blue-grey coat and big golden eyes, Chunky brings calm, charm, and plenty of purrs to every visit. Whether we’re caring for him in Docklands or sharing a quiet moment over a meal, Chunky always reminds us how special in-home cat care can be.

Quirks & Habits
Chunky loves his window naps and slow, curious strolls around his apartment. You’ll often find him perched in his favourite sunny spot, watching the city skyline or gently nudging us for pats when he feels affectionate. He’s got that classic British Shorthair mix of independence and warmth — a cat who enjoys his space but also loves quiet company.

Breed Traits
As a British Shorthair, Chunky shows all the hallmarks of his breed: calm, loyal, and irresistibly cuddly (when he’s in the mood, of course!). These cats are known for their easy-going nature and teddy-bear looks — and Chunky is no exception. His gentle, observant personality makes him a joy to care for during our Docklands home visits.

Closing
We’re so glad Chunky is part of our Pawmates family and love every visit we share with this charming British Shorthair. Can’t wait for more head bumps, soft purrs, and Docklands sunsets together. 💕*

Barney the Beautiful Black Cat from Kensington

At Pet Stays Melbourne, we’ve had the absolute pleasure of caring for Barney, a striking black cat with the most beautiful green eyes you’ve ever seen. Barney has been part of our extended furry family for many years, and every time his mum heads off on holiday, we’re lucky enough to spend quality time with this handsome boy.

Barney lives in Kensington, a charming inner-Melbourne suburb where he enjoys the best of both worlds — the comfort of home and the excitement of watching the world go by from his favourite sunny window perch.

When we visit, Barney greets us with his signature slow blink — the ultimate cat sign of trust and affection. He loves gentle pats, chin scratches, and a good chat while we refresh his food and water. Like many cats, Barney has his own special routine, and we always make sure to keep things just the way he likes them — from the timing of his meals to the perfect fluff of his favourite blanket.

What we adore most about Barney is his calm, affectionate nature. He’s a true gentleman — content to lounge in the sunshine, observe his kingdom, and soak up attention (on his terms, of course!). Over the years, we’ve come to know his quirks, his favourite hiding spots, and the quiet companionship that makes looking after him such a joy.

Caring for cats like Barney is one of the reasons we love what we do. Every visit is a reminder that cats thrive best when they stay in their own familiar environment — surrounded by the scents, sounds, and comforts they know. With our in-home cat care service, Melbourne cat owners can head away knowing their feline family members are relaxed, safe, and loved — just like Barney.

If you’re planning a getaway and want to make sure your cat enjoys the same peace and comfort as Barney, we’d love to help. Learn more about our in-home cat care services

Bella – Toy Poodle

About Bella:
Bella is a petite Toy Poodle bursting with energy and joy. With her silky black curls and ever-wagging tail, she brings a playful sparkle to every visit. Agile, fast, and full of bounce, Bella is a little bubble of happiness who zips around with effortless grace.

Her Story:
Bella has been part of our puppy day care family since she was just six months old, and now—at 3 years of age—she’s a seasoned regular at Pet Stays Melbourne, visiting us 2–3 times a week. From the beginning, she charmed everyone with her bright personality and gentle nature. She’s quick to make friends with other pups and equally quick to find a comfy spot on the couch for cuddles.

Whether she’s enjoying playtime in the garden or snuggling up after a busy morning, Bella is the perfect example of how dogs thrive in a calm, loving in-home dog boarding and doggy daycare environment.

Why We Love Bella:
Bella is a delight to care for—sweet, social, and so affectionate. Watching her grow from a curious puppy into a confident young dog has been a joy. Her loyalty and loving nature remind us why we’re so passionate about offering truly personalised care in a real home setting.

Bowie & Beau – Maltese Shihtzu & Shihtzu Brothers

About Bowie & Beau:
Meet Bowie and Beau—two inseparable brothers with very different personalities who have become a much-loved part of our doggy daycare family.

Bowie, a white Maltese Shih Tzu, joined us at just 9 weeks old. He’s the quieter one of the duo—gentle, calm, and always observing the world with thoughtful eyes.

Beau, his cheeky caramel-and-white Shih Tzu brother, arrived not long after at 4 months old. With two strikingly different coloured eyes and a big personality to match, Beau is full of mischief and charm—a true little ratbag in the best way!

petstays-bowie -beau – maltese-shih-tzu-and-shih-tzu

Their Story:
These boys are part of our daily crew and feel right at home here. With a busy mum who’s a dedicated doctor, Bowie and Beau spend most weekdays with us, enjoying the companionship and comfort of our in-home dog boarding and puppy day care setup.

They’ve grown up alongside our resident gentle giant, Marvin the Staghound, who acts like a big brother—keeping them in check (especially Beau!) and sharing snuggles during quiet time.

Whether it’s playtime on the lawn or curling up on the couch, these two have made Pet Stays Melbourne their second home—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Why We Love Bowie & Beau:
Watching Bowie and Beau grow from tiny pups into confident, loving little characters has been a true privilege. Their bond with Marvin, their playful antics, and their sweet snuggles remind us every day why an in-home doggy daycare environment makes all the difference.

petstays-groodle-murphy

Murphy – Groodle

About Murphy:
Meet Murphy—affectionately known as Murph. This gentle Groodle has a soft tan, wiry coat and the sweetest personality to match. We first welcomed Murphy at around 10 months of age, and he’s been joining us once or twice a week ever since.

His Story:
Murphy is a sensitive soul with a touch of anxiety, so our calm, cage-free in-home doggy daycare environment suits him perfectly. While he enjoys the company of the other dogs, what he really loves is being close to Reza or Jeannene—sticking by our side like a quiet shadow.

One of our favourite Murphy quirks? When it’s time to go home, he proudly finds his leash and carries it to the door himself—ever the polite gentleman.

In our care, Murphy has slowly come out of his shell, building confidence at his own pace, surrounded by gentle companions and familiar routines.

Why We Love Murphy:
Murphy brings a peaceful presence to the group. His trust, loyalty, and tender nature remind us why dogs like him thrive in an in-home dog boarding setting where they feel safe, seen, and genuinely cared for. He’s more than just a client—he’s part of the family.

Baci – Golden Retriever

About Baci:
Baci is our resident ball of energy—a big, beautiful Golden Retriever with a golden fluffy coat and a personality to match. When we first met him, he was a young, skinny, inexperienced pup, still figuring out the world and his place in it.

His Story:
Over time, Baci began to blossom. With regular visits to our puppy day care and doggy daycare services, he grew in size, confidence, and cheekiness! These days, he’s one of the most handsome Goldies we know—full of fur, fully filled out, and bursting with playfulness.

Petstays-baci-golden-retriever
arrow

He’s the wild child of the group—the “crazy kid on the block”—and he never fails to keep the rest of the pack entertained. Whether it’s zoomies around the yard, cheeky games with his pals, or attempting to chew anything he can get his paws on, Baci brings joyful chaos wherever he goes.

That said, he is a few years of age now and he’s slowly starting to mature. These days, we see a little less of the full-body tackles and a bit more self-control (emphasis on a bit 😉).

Why We Love Baci:
Baci is a lovable rogue with a huge heart. Watching him grow from a lanky puppy into a confident, social, and still delightfully cheeky young dog has been such a fun ride. He’s a perfect example of how in-home dog boarding and consistent doggy daycare support can help high-energy pups channel their enthusiasm in a positive way—and become the best versions of themselves.

petstays-melbourne-labrador-lulu

Lulu – Labrador Retriever

About Lulu:
Lulu is a beautiful blonde Labrador Retriever with a sweet, gentle nature that captures hearts. Having raised Customs pups over the years, I (Jeannene) developed a deep love for the Labrador breed—and eventually had two of my own, who are now dearly missed. So when Lulu joined us, it felt a little like welcoming family.

Her Story:
Lulu has been a much-loved regular at Pet Stays Melbourne, visiting us twice a week for many years as part of our doggy daycare program. She brings the perfect mix of playfulness and calm—always ready for a game, but just as content in her own company.

She’s a creature of habit too. The moment Lulu arrives, her tail starts wagging, and she confidently trots straight to the side gate, ready to begin her play day.

Why We Love Lulu:
Lulu is kind, loyal, and quietly joyful—everything we adore about Labradors. Her presence is a lovely reminder of the gentle spirit of the Labs we’ve known and loved. In our in-home dog boarding and daycare environment, she truly shines—comfortable, confident, and always part of the family.

Doug – Bordoodle

About Doug:
Doug (or Dougie, as we affectionately call him) is a beautiful Bordoodle with a heart as soft as his curls. He’s been part of the Pet Stays Melbourne family since he was just 19 weeks old, and now, a few years on, he’s a familiar and much-loved presence in our doggy daycare program.

His Story:
From the start, Doug made it clear where his loyalties lie—he’s absolutely obsessed with Jeannene! According to his mum, he even recognises her name. The moment she says, “Let’s go see Jeannene and Reza,” Doug’s eyes light up and he’s ready to go.

petstays-bordoodle-doug
arrow

While other dogs might dash off to play, Doug prefers the human connection. He’s often found lounging near our desk or curled up on the couch (yes, he might be just a little bit spoiled!). He loves to “chat” to Jeannene on arrival, sharing his excitement in his own special way before settling into his day.

Why We Love Doug:
Doug is gentle, affectionate, and full of character. He brings a sense of calm to our space and reminds us that in-home doggy daycare isn’t just about play—it’s about companionship, familiarity, and giving every dog the space to be exactly who they are. Doug may not be the most social with the four-legged crowd, but he’s found his place here—and we absolutely adore him for it.

petstays-groodle-remy

Remy – Groodle

About Remy:
Remy is our warm caramel-coloured Groodle with a coat that falls somewhere between straight and wavy—just like his personality, he’s the perfect blend of playful and peaceful. He joined Pet Stays Melbourne at around 1 year of age and has been a treasured Thursday regular ever since.

His Story:
Remy arrives each Thursday with quiet confidence, ready to greet his doggo friends and settle into the day. True to his Groodle roots (a mix of Golden Retriever and Poodle), he’s affectionate, intelligent, and very people-focused. He loves a good run and a bit of play with his crew—but once he’s had his fun, he’s happiest relaxing quietly out in the yard, soaking up the fresh air and watching the world go by.

Affectionately known as our “big bear,” Remy is known for his gentle cuddles and soulful eyes. And we’re so proud of his recent achievement—he now jumps into the back of his parents’ car all on his own, no lifting required!

Why We Love Remy:
Remy brings a sense of calm and connection to our in-home dog boarding and doggy daycare days. He’s affectionate without being demanding, playful without being wild—and just an all-around lovely soul to have around. Watching him grow more confident and relaxed over time has been a joy, and his Thursdays are always something we look forward to.

Flossie – Maltese Shih Tzu

About Flossie:
Flossie is a tiny bundle of white and brown fluff with the energy of an energiser bunny and the sweetness of a teddy bear. She joined us at just 4.5 months old—at the time, the quiet, reserved one of the block—but oh, how she’s blossomed!

Her Story:
In her early days at Pet Stays Melbourne, Flossie was gentle and cautious, taking her time to observe and settle in. But with the support of her puppy day care crew and a safe, familiar environment, her confidence quickly grew.

Flossie – Maltese Shihtzu
arrow

Now? She’s the little rocket zipping around indoors, full of life and curiosity. Hard to catch, always moving, and always up for fun. Despite a slight vision impairment that makes stairs and heights a bit tricky, Flossie doesn’t hold back—she’s surprisingly fearless and mixes happily with dogs of all breeds and sizes.

After her zoomies, she’s more than happy to settle into a cuddle—because beneath the energy, she’s still the soft, sweet girl we first met.

Why We Love Flossie:
Flossie may be small, but she’s all heart. Her journey from reserved pup to confident social butterfly is exactly why we love what we do. In our calm, caring in-home doggy daycare environment, she’s found her rhythm—and we absolutely adore her for it.

Petstays-melbourne-Asher-Kelpie-Rescue

Asher – Kelpie Rescue Dog

About Asher:
Asher is a striking black Kelpie with a warm soul and wise eyes. A Thursday doggy daycare regular and longtime holiday guest, Asher has been part of the Pet Stays Melbourne family for many years—and we feel lucky to have him in our care.

His Story:
Unlike the typical Kelpie stereotype of constant high-speed zoomies and endless energy, Asher is more of a people dog. He’s well-trained, loyal, and much prefers human company to running amok with the crowd (though he’ll never say no to a sneaky extra snack!).

Kelpies are known for their intelligence, agility, and strong work ethic—traits originally bred for herding sheep across vast distances in Australia. While Asher still carries that trademark sharp mind and attentiveness, he’s mellowed into a more relaxed rhythm. These days, he enjoys a quiet sniff around the garden, a chin scratch from Reza or Jeannene, and then a cozy nap nearby.

Asher is also part of a very special legacy—he’s the third dog we’ve had the privilege of caring for from his family. We still fondly remember Sox and Goldie, two beautiful souls who have now crossed the rainbow bridge. It’s a deep honour to continue looking after their four-legged brother, and to feel the lasting connection through each dog’s unique spirit.

Why We Love Asher:
Asher is calm, loyal, and quietly affectionate. His trust means the world to us. He may not be the loudest or the fastest, but his presence is grounding and full of heart. His story is a beautiful reminder of the long-lasting relationships we build through our in-home dog boarding and doggy daycare services—not just with dogs, but with their humans too.

Chloe – Cavoodle

About Chloe:
Chloe is a sweet Cavoodle (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel x Poodle) who has been a cherished guest at Pet Stays Melbourne for many years. When she first arrived at 5 years old, she was very shy and spent her time hiding under chairs, feeling uncertain in her new environment. But with each extended visit, Chloe has gradually come out of her shell, becoming more confident, comfortable, and at ease with her surroundings.

Chloe is especially attached to Jeannene, and often enjoys the peace of her own private suite in Jeannene’s room. Though she is a rescue dog with some anxiety, she’s grown to trust us and now enjoys her time here, even though she still prefers to be closely monitored. Chloe is not the most social with other dogs, but she’s always happy for her one-on-one time and a game of ball. She absolutely loves her walks and is always ready for mealtime.

petstays-melbourne-cavoodle-chloe
arrow

Her Story:
When Chloe first started staying with us, she was very timid—often sitting under chairs and cowing from new experiences. However, over the course of her extended visits, Chloe has blossomed into a more confident and relaxed dog. While she still prefers a quieter environment and closely supervised interactions, she’s become more comfortable and open over time, showing just how resilient she is.

Cavoodle Traits:
Cavoodles are known for their affectionate, friendly, and intelligent nature. They are typically great with families and other dogs, with a balanced mix of energy and relaxation. Chloe, while more reserved, still exhibits the gentle, loving qualities that make Cavoodles such great companions. With their Poodle parentage, they’re also hypoallergenic, making them an excellent choice for families with allergies.

Why We Love Chloe:
Chloe’s transformation from a shy, anxious dog to one who now enjoys her time at Pet Stays Melbourne is nothing short of inspiring. We’ve watched her come out of her shell over the years, and we couldn’t be prouder of her progress. Her affection, loyalty, and quiet presence bring so much joy to our daycare family. Whether she’s playing ball, enjoying her daily walk, or simply curling up for some quiet time in her room, Chloe’s journey is a beautiful reminder of how love and patience help dogs thrive.

Hattie – The Graceful Snuggler

Hattie – The Graceful Snuggler

Hattie, our lovely white Maltese Shih Tzu, is the picture of elegance and calm. With her silky-soft coat and gentle eyes, she’s the kind of pup who quietly charms everyone in the room without even trying.

Though she enjoys the company of dogs her own size, Hattie’s true happy place is curled up on the couch, soaking in the calm vibes and enjoying a peaceful snuggle. She’s a girl of impeccable manners — quiet, respectful, and always polite with both her two- and four-legged friends.

Over time, Hattie has built sweet friendships with some of our regulars, especially Bella and the two Bowies. Together they make the perfect little pack — gentle, playful, and full of cuddles.

Whether she’s spending the day at puppy daycare or staying for a little holiday with us through our in-home dog boarding service, Hattie brings a lovely sense of calm to the group — and always knows the best spot on the couch.

Marvin – Our Resident Gentle Giant

Meet Marvin — our sleek, black Staghound with a patch of white on his chest and a heart that’s somehow even bigger than his 40kg frame. With long legs, soulful eyes, and a tail that should come with a warning sign (especially when he’s excited), Marvin is the resident pup-in-charge here at Pet Stays — although he’d never let the title go to his head.

Marvin came to us in a way that changed all our lives. After one of our clients heartbreakingly never returned to collect him, we couldn’t bear to see him go anywhere else. And just like that, he became part of our family. Now he’s our full-time live-in dog and the heart of the home.

petstays-staghound-cross-shorthaird-pointer-Marvin
arrow

Despite his size, Marvin is one of the gentlest souls you’ll ever meet. He has a soft spot for the tiniest puppies — often flopping onto his back and letting them use him as a furry bean bag. He adores dogs of all sizes, and his calm energy helps new or nervous pups settle in quickly, especially during puppy daycare and in-home dog boarding stays.

Quick zoomies around the park, a solid meal (don’t stand between him and his bowl!), and a long nap on the couch — that’s Marvin’s perfect day. He’s often mistaken for a Greyhound, but as a Staghound — a mix often including Greyhound, Deerhound and other sighthounds — Marvin is a perfect blend of athletic grace and affectionate goofiness. Staghounds are known for their gentle nature, loyalty, and surprising love of lounging — and Marvin is all of that, and more.

We couldn’t imagine Pet Stays without him.

petstays-german-shorthaired-pointer-florence

Florence – The Sweet-Hearted Pointer

Florence, our beautiful German Shorthaired Pointer, is as elegant as she is affectionate. With her sleek chocolate brown coat scattered with white spots, she’s a striking girl — but it’s her soulful eyes that truly win hearts. One look from Florence and you’ll find yourself completely smitten.

She joins us every fortnight and brings with her a quiet, gentle energy. She’s not the loudest or the most energetic in the group, but she’s one of the kindest. Florence loves human company and is never far from your side, happily resting her head on your leg for a cuddle or quietly soaking in the atmosphere.

She gets along with everyone — always respectful, calm, and friendly with her doggy companions, whether it’s during puppy daycare or a relaxed day visit.

As a German Shorthaired Pointer, Florence is part of a breed known for its intelligence, loyalty, and versatility. Originally bred as hunting dogs, they’re athletic, eager to please, and thrive on both mental stimulation and close human connection. Florence embodies the gentler side of the breed — affectionate, intuitive, and deeply attached to her people.

She’s a quiet treasure, and we always look forward to her visits.

Lily – Our Grand Lady

At 17 and a half years old, Lily the Maltese Shih Tzu is nothing short of remarkable. Petite in size but mighty in spirit, she continues to defy her age with quiet determination and a deep love for the simple comforts of life.

Recently diagnosed with a neurological condition, Lily sometimes bumps into things or finds herself walking in gentle circles. But she’s not fazed — she takes it ll in her stride, never complaining, just adapting with grace. Her vision may have faded, but her sense of smell remains razor sharp — especially when it’s meal time. And let’s be honest, for such a tiny girl, her appetite is impressive! Shredded chicken with a little warm water is her go-to dish, and she’s not subtle when it’s time to be served.

Petstays-melbourne-Lily-Our-Grand-Lady
arrow

During the day, Lily spends most of her time resting — usually snuggled in a soft blanket like a baby, or tucked in close to the heater. She’s a quiet soul, except when she needs something — and when she does, she lets us know with a bark that’s surprisingly powerful for her size! It’s her way of saying, “Water, please,” or “I’d like a little walk now,” or simply, “I’m ready for dinner.”

She may sleep more than she used to, and yes, she snores a little — but every moment with Lily is a quiet reminder of loyalty, love, and the deep bond we form with our dogs over the years.

She’s a treasured guest here at Pet Stays, and we’re honoured to care for her in her golden years — whether she’s curled up beside us for the day or just enjoying a peaceful nap.

petstays-labrador-cross-mabel

Mabel – The Quiet Observer

Mabel, our beautiful black Lab cross, has been a steady presence here at Pet Stays for several years of doggy daycare. With her glossy coat and strong frame, she looks every bit the confident pup — but beneath that strength is a calm, thoughtful soul who prefers to take things at her own pace.

Each week when she arrives, Mabel greets her friends politely, enjoys a quick play, and then often chooses to settle into her own space — quietly observing the world around her. She’s not one for the spotlight, but she clearly enjoys being part of the pack in her own reserved way.

Mabel’s story is made even more special by her incredible owner, who rescued her and has since given her the structure, care, and training she needed to thrive. Mabel is beautifully disciplined, responsive to commands, and carries herself with calm confidence. It’s clear she’s deeply loved — and we know the feeling is mutual.

Her mum tells us Mabel always knows when it’s Pet Stays day — tail wagging, eyes bright, ready for her special outing. We love having her as part of our extended family, and her loyal, peaceful energy brings a sense of calm to every visit.

Munjie – The Little Rocket

Munjie the Australian Terrier may be small, but she’s absolutely bursting with energy and personality! With her brown wiry coat and a spark in her eyes, Munjie zips around the yard like a flash — always on the move and always keeping us on our toes.

She’s been part of the Pet Stays family for several years now, regularly joining us for doggy daycare and overnight boarding. With her mum actively involved in the local community, Munjie gets to spend some of her days hanging out with us — and we’re so lucky to have her.

Petstays-melbourne-Munjie-The-Little-Rocket
arrow

Australian Terriers like Munjie are known for their boldness, loyalty, and lively spirit. While she’s not much of an explorer, Munjie is full of spark — she loves a good sprint, a quick play, and then a bit of quiet time.

She may be speedy, but she also knows when to slow down and enjoy a cuddle or simply relax and observe the action around her. Our little rocket has just the right balance of zip and zen — and we adore her for it.

Walter-petstays-melbourne

Walter 9-year-old black Groodle

At nine years old—and still bouncing around like a puppy—Walter is our beloved black Groodle with a heart as big as his paws. Playful, gentle, and always ready for a cuddle, he brings joy to everyone he meets. His eyes are especially lovely (when you can spot them under all that shaggy fur!), full of warmth and curiosity.

Groodles have become increasingly popular across Australia in recent years, and it’s easy to see why. They’re a beautiful blend of the friendly Golden Retriever and the intelligent Poodle—making them smart, affectionate, and great with families. Their low-shedding coats are perfect for allergy-sensitive households, and their adaptable nature suits both city living and wide open spaces.

Walter might be nine, but he still greets every day with the enthusiasm of a pup—bounding through the garden, playing with his mates, and always checking in for pats. He’s a shining example of why Groodles are so loved.

Molly the Cavoodle

Molly isn’t just a guest at Pet Stays Melbourne — she’s part of the family. This sweet Cavoodle has been boarding with us for many years, and every visit is a joy. With her soft curls and soulful eyes, Molly has a way of bringing warmth and happiness to everyone around her.

Now a senior girl, Molly has settled into her golden years with grace. Like many Cavoodle’s, she thrives on companionship and much prefers the company of humans over spending too much time on her own. Whether it’s curling up beside us on the couch or following us around the garden, Molly is happiest when she’s close to her people.

Cavoodles are known for being affectionate, intelligent, and adaptable — traits Molly embodies beautifully. With her gentle nature, loyal heart, and love of a good cuddle, she has become one of our most treasured returning guests.

We adore having Molly as part of our Pet Stays Paw Mates family and look forward to many more stays with this beautiful girl. 💕

Rumi the Pomeranian Cross

Rumi the Pomeranian Cross

Rumi is a ball of fur who has quickly won our hearts here at Pet Stays Melbourne. With her fluffy coat and gentle spirit, she’s an absolute delight to care for and a much-loved member of our Pet Stays Paw Mates family.

Rumi enjoys life’s simple pleasures — especially a cosy nap. You’ll often find her curled up in her favourite spot, drifting off with the sweetest little snore. It’s part of her charm and something that makes her stay with us all the more endearing.

Like many Pomeranians, Rumi is an alert and loyal companion who notices everything going on around her. At the same time, she’s a sensitive soul who prefers her space and isn’t too fond of being picked up — and we always respect that. Instead, she enjoys calm companionship, gentle pats on her terms, and the comfort of a peaceful, relaxed environment.

Rumi may be small, but her personality is big — combining the playful spark of a Pomeranian with her own thoughtful, tender nature. We’re so glad she’s part of our Pet Stays Paw Mates family and we look forward to many more nap-filled visits. 💕

Jake the Labrador Beagle Cross

Jake isn’t just a guest at Pet Stays Melbourne — he’s family. This sweet Labrador Beagle cross, lovingly known as Jakey, has been part of our lives for many years, bringing warmth, laughter, and love into our home with every visit.

Jake knows the routine like the back of his paw. He waits patiently at the passage door, excited for it to open so he can settle into his own private suite beside our bed, his safe and cosy spot. When it’s time for a walk, his little happy dance is guaranteed to brighten anyone’s day. But when the walk is over, Jakey sometimes stands his ground and clearly says “no” to going home — a cheeky reminder that he loves his adventures just as much as his comforts.

With his calm, affectionate nature, Jake embodies the best traits of both Labradors and Beagles: intelligence, loyalty, and a heart full of love. His gentle personality and sweet demeanour make him a treasured companion for everyone he meets.

Recently, Jakey has faced a difficult challenge with a cancer diagnosis, reminding us how precious every moment with our furry friends truly is. As pet sitters, we become a second family, sharing in their joys and comforts, and feeling their absence leaves a tender space in our hearts.

Even in the face of challenges, Jakey’s spirit shines brightly. He is such a trooper. Every cuddle, walk, and quiet moment reminds us of the joy and love he brings into our lives. We feel so privileged to care for him and to celebrate the incredible little life he shares with our Pet Stays family. 💕

Maximus the Staffy Bull Terrier Cross

Maximus, as we lovingly call him Maxi-pus, is a blue Staffy Bull Terrier cross — and despite his strong name, he’s the biggest sooky baby at Pet Stays Melbourne. This gentle giant has been part of our Pet Stays pack for around 7–8 years, and every day with him is a joy.

Maxi-pus loves to greet everyone with a handshake and a slobbery kiss, and he especially enjoys sitting on top of you with a blanket on the couch, soaking up all the cuddles. Beneath his muscular frame and large head lies a heart full of affection, and his calm, loving nature makes him a beloved member of our Paw Mate’s family.

Staffy Bull Terrier crosses are known for their loyalty, intelligence, and playful spirit, and Maxi-pus embodies all of these traits. He thrives on human connection, enjoys sharing quiet moments, and shows a tender, affectionate side that perfectly balances his energetic playfulness.

Despite his strength, Maxi-pus is all about connection — enjoying cuddles, attention, and sharing joyful moments with the humans around him. He’s the perfect mix of playful energy and tender companionship, showing that a big dog can have just as much love as he has muscle.

We’re so lucky to have Maxi-pus as part of our Pet Stays Paw Mates family and look forward to many more years of his kisses, handshakes, and gentle company. 💕

Tilly the West Highland Terrier

Meet Tilly, our beautiful pure white West Highland Terrier, who has been part of the Pet Stays family for many years. Now a senior girl, Tilly has slowed down a little with age, but she still carries the same spark and personality that has always made her such a delight to care for.
Tilly may move at her own pace these days, but she never misses the chance to jump up on the couch — especially when it’s time for her much-loved facial scratches, which she simply cannot get enough of. Her sense of smell remains as sharp as ever, and no matter how deeply she is sleeping, the faintest scent of food will have her awake and ready to investigate.
Cuddles on the couch are one of her favourite pastimes, and she is never happier than when snuggled up close. Tilly enjoys interacting with other dogs, always on her own terms, and when she has had enough of socialising, she loves nothing more than heading back inside for some peace and quiet.
One of her quirks — and one we adore — is her habit of barking at the dogs and horses she sees on the TV. It’s her way of joining in on the action, reminding us all that even in her senior years, she has plenty of spirit left.
Tilly is a much-loved member of our Pet Stays Pawmates community, and caring for her in this stage of life is a privilege. She reminds us daily that growing older doesn’t mean slowing down on love, companionship, or those irresistible couch cuddles. 💖🐾

Forever in Our Hearts: Remembering Beloved PawMates honours the cherished dogs who have been part of our Pet Stays family and have since passed on.

🌈 In Loving Memory of Lily – Our Grand Lady

On the 9th of September 2025, our precious Lily crossed the rainbow bridge — just days shy of celebrating her 18th birthday. Petite in size but grand in spirit, Lily was the very definition of grace, strength, and quiet determination.
At almost 18 years of age, this remarkable Maltese Shihtzu had already lived a life full of love and devotion. Though her little body grew tired and her steps slowed, her heart never faltered. Even when faced with a neurological condition, Lily adapted with dignity — never complaining, only adjusting. She showed us all what it means to embrace life’s challenges with courage.
Lily had her quirks that made her unforgettable: her extraordinary appetite for shredded chicken, her powerful little bark that could fill a room, and her razor-sharp sense of smell that always knew when dinner was being served. Wrapped up in her soft blanket, snuggled by the heater, or softly snoring away, she carried herself with an elegance that earned her the title of “Our Grand Lady.”
For her family, Lily was more than a pet — she was pure love in fur. She leaves behind a whole in our hearts and an even bigger one in theirs. Nearly 18 years of loyalty, companionship, and joy cannot be replaced, but they will be cherished forever.
At Pet Stays Melbourne, we feel deeply honoured to have cared for her in her golden years. Her presence brought a gentle light to our days, and her absence leaves a silence that words cannot fill.
Lily, you were treasured beyond measure. May you run free now, whole and healthy once more, across endless fields under the rainbow bridge. We will carry your memory always — a reminder of the deep bond between dogs and their humans, and of the unconditional love you gave so freely.
Forever our Grand Lady. 💖🐾

Forever in Our Hearts: Remembering Beloved PawMates honours the cherished dogs who have been part of our Pet Stays family and have since passed on.

Each dog has left an indelible paw print on our hearts through the love, joy, and companionship they shared with us. We are deeply honoured to have shared their journey with their devoted parents, witnessing the special bond that made each life unique.

Though they are no longer with us in person, their doggy spirits live on in the memories and stories we hold dear. This memorial space is a tribute to their lasting impact and a place to remember the special bond we were privileged to share with each beloved PawMate here at Pet Stays.

Pet Stays love sharing the unique stories and personalities of some of the wonderful dogs we have cared for over the years. Each PawMate brings their own special joy, quirks, and charm to our home-style boarding and daycare. From playful pups to the gentle seniors, these heartwarming tales celebrate the strong bonds we build and the enriching experiences that make every stay truly one-of-a-kind.

Tiny but Tenacious: Babette & Gabriele's Unbreakable Bond

Our smallest ever dog was a tiny mini dachshund named Babette. She was so small and young when she first came to us that one day, we couldn’t find her—only to discover she had quietly fallen asleep tucked under the coffee table. Babette came with her brother Gabriele, also a dachshund, and the two were inseparable. They loved curling up in their little sleeping bags, snuggling close and sharing the comfort of each other’s company. Gabriele was obsessed with his tennis ball, and we would spend hours throwing it for him around the house, up and down the corridor—sometimes having to hide it just to get him to rest. Sadly, as a senior, Gabriele passed away, and a month later, Babette followed, perhaps from heartbreak. These little dachshunds, with their big personalities and devoted spirits, certainly broke our hearts. We cherish every moment we were honoured to share with these beloved fur babies.

Graceful and Gentle: Yogi the Immaculate Papillon

Yogi the Papillon was a picture of elegance with the most beautifully groomed coat every time he boarded with us. His signature large, fringed ears, shaped like the delicate wings of a butterfly, gave him a distinctive and charming look typical of his breed. Beyond his striking appearance, Yogi had a soft, gentle nature, embodying the affectionate and friendly temperament Papillons are known for. His immaculate grooming and calm presence made every visit a special delight for us.

Gaston: A Triumph of Patience and Love

Gaston, our sweet Cavalier King Charles guest, was a gentle soul with a shy and timid nature. A rescue dog who had spent much of his early life confined to a crate, his loving owners welcomed him into their family with open hearts. Visiting him at his home in Essendon, it was clear how delicate his confidence was—he would often need to be carried partway on walks, only to run happily back home.

With patience and gentle encouragement, we worked to help Gaston come out of his crate bit by bit. At first, he would only venture halfway down the hallway, but slowly, with time and kindness, his confidence grew. Eventually, he warmed to other dogs during visits to our home, showing his sweet, gentle nature. Known for his funny habit of blowing bubbles from his nose and his love of sleeping quietly under desks at our feet, Gaston touched the hearts of all who met him.

He was a true credit to the persistence and patience shown during his care, and his loving owners were deeply impressed by his progress. We were honoured to witness his journey of growth and trust as he found comfort, companionship, and a little more confidence each day. Gaston’s story reminds us how even the smallest steps on a walk or out of a safe space can be giant leaps in healing and happiness.

Taiso: The Feisty Senior on Patrol

Taiso, our spirited 17-year-old Miniature Pinscher, was a delightful blend of age and feistiness. Though old and nearly blind, he carried himself with a confident presence, patrolling the lounge room like a tiny guardian. His favourite resting spot was his cosy teepee bed we set up for him, where he would snuggle down for comfort.

Despite his limited vision, Taiso was alert and cautious—approaching him required a gentle touch so as not to startle him. He had a cheeky way of letting you know he was there, often trying to take a little nip just to say hello. True to the Min Pin spirit, he was bold and lively right up to his senior years.

Taiso’s story reflects the vitality and spirit that many Miniature Pinschers display, even as they age gracefully. His presence filled the room with character and charm, reminding us all that age is just a number when it comes to heart and personality.

Dougie: The Chatty Curly-Coated Lagotto Romagnolo

Douglas, affectionately known as Dougie, was a lively Lagotto Romagnolo with a coat of brown curls that sometimes hid those expressive eyes, giving him an irresistibly charming look. From afar, you could hear his excited “chat” as he arrived at the gate, his joyful voice announcing his presence. Full of love and enthusiasm, Dougie had an affectionate and playful nature that made him a delight to care for.

One amusing contrast was his encounters with our friendly resident cat at the time—Dougie always seemed a bit confused and unsure of how to approach the feline friend, a quirky reminder of his curious and gentle spirit. Tragically, Dougie passed away suddenly from sepsis, leaving behind memories of a loyal and loving companion who filled many of our days with warmth and chatter.

Like his family, we were deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden passing. His loss broke our spirit, as he had become such an important and cherished part of our lives.
